Why voltage rises with thrust
Higher-voltage systems deliver more power without forcing every cable and connector to carry proportionally more current. The tradeoff is more batteries or a specialized higher-voltage pack, more complex charging, and less tolerance for wiring mistakes.

The simple rule
Use the voltage printed on the exact motor. Never create a 24V or 36V battery bank for a 12V motor. In conventional series banks, 24V uses two matched 12V batteries and 36V uses three.
- 12V: common for kayaks and small transom motors
- 24V: common when more sustained thrust is required
- 36V: high-thrust systems with more battery and charger complexity
- Use batteries of the same type, size, and age in a series bank

Where this finder stops
The first RigCurrent release gives purchase-ready recommendations only for verified 12V rigs. If the load model crosses that boundary, it flags the setup for a 24V review instead of inventing a confident answer.
