Protection is part of the circuit

A manual-reset, trip-free marine breaker or correctly rated fuse protects the ungrounded conductor. It is not an optional accessory to add after the battery and motor have been chosen.

Length changes cable size quickly

Manufacturer tables size extensions around maximum current and permitted voltage drop. A cable that works at five feet may be substantially undersized at twenty feet.

• Use the exact motor's published maximum current
• Measure the extension from battery to motor leads
• Use marine-grade cable with the specified temperature rating
• Do not extend a lead when the manufacturer explicitly says not to
• Use a qualified marine technician beyond published table limits

The finder cites the row it uses

RigCurrent only outputs a wire size when a manufacturer table covers the selected motor and length. Otherwise it tells you to keep factory leads or obtain model-specific approval.
